What benefits do I have from a well maintained chain?
Simple answer: Much more riding fun and more performance. When you hear your chain requires care (because you can hear the chain), it’s actually too late. A dry chain causes massive wear and destroys the drive components of your bike. And as the lubricating film decreases, quite a lot of performance also gets lost. An unmaintained drive train eats up to 10% of power (by rule of thumb).

Why GREEN DISC?
The sense and the concept of the GREEN DISC consists in a time-saving, clean and environmentally friendly chain maintenance in high quality of execution. Of course there are many ways to maintain a bicycle chain. But done right, this always means work and also a little practice, skill and dirt. If you have the time and desire to take care of the chain actively and with effort, you can of course do this without the GREEN DISC. But the best and most comfortable way to lubricate the chain is the GREEN DISC. We would be pleased if you would have a look through all our FAQs.

Why does the GREEN DISC protect the environment?
With the GREEN DISC no oil flows into the cloth, no oil splashes around. No substances get into the soil and ground water. Only the amount of oil really needed to lubricate the chain is consumed, while any other type of chain lubrication always uses a large surplus of lubricant, which is then removed and dumped. Or drips to the ground immediately. Attention: The GREEN DISC’s replaceable lubricator wheel is even biodegradable. The best thing you can do is to use a biodegradable lubricant - then nothing will stand in the way of composting it later.

Which lubricants can I use with the GREEN DISC?
The GREEN DISC works with all common low to medium viscosity oils. (Common low to medium viscosity oils are what is known as chain or bicycle oil). Please note that it is not suitable for waxes and lubricants containing solvents, as these dry in a short time. Think about whether you really want to use one of the many “high-tech lubricants” offered! These usually contain chemical additives such as PTFE, molybdenum disulfide or graphite, which ALWAYS end up in the ground water. Of course the GREEN DISC - what a wonder - works great with our BIO CHAIN LUBE. Our BIO CHAIN LUBE is produced with basic components on a plant basis. With adhesion-enhancing additives it is biodegradable without compromising excellent wear protection. It has a good adhesion and guarantees a quiet and smooth running of your chain. The content of delivery is a bottle with pointed nozzle (50ml / 1,7 fl oz)

What materials is the GREEN DISC made of - are they environmentally friendly?
Yes, they are. The housing basically has a so-called unlimited service life, as it is carefully constructed and is not exposed to mechanical stress during use. It really lasts for many years. Furthermore, it is made of recycled plastic, which is used for the second time with the production of the GREEN DISC. In addition, the inner lubricator wheel is even compostable as it is made of a compressed fibre fleece of natural material.

How can the GREEN DISC be leak-proof? It doesn't even have a cap!
That’s right, it’s leakproof even without a cap. This is due to a natural fibre fleece with a special adjusted density. This stores a considerable amount of lubricant on the surface and between its fibres and transfers the lubricant to the outside, where it is transferred to the chain during use. In this way the GREEN DISC can be stored without a box. But we deliver it with a box. So it can be transported easily and safely - for example on a bike trip.

How often does the lubricator wheel have to be changed?
The master question. We ourselves use several samples of the GREEN DISC. The most used lubricator wheels are over one year old and have already done more than 50 lube jobs. They still work perfectly (even though they probably don’t look nice anymore). If you want to be on the safe side, you have the possibility to order a lubricator wheel replacement set right after the campaign in our post-campaign shop together with the address survey - without further shipping costs and at a backers-only price. Or just take a look at our 2nd update from March 27th. Surprise, surprise. Of course we will keep the lubricator wheel permanently available as a spare part after the campaign in our shop at www.drivt.bike. Backers asked us if the lubricator wheel could be washed out. Technically there is nothing wrong with cleaning (de-oiling) the lubricator wheel and reinstalling it after drying. The classic way would be to use nitro dilution or gasoline. Yes, this works. But it is definitely not environmentally friendly due to the use of needed solvents. As we do not know of any real bio-friendly degreaser without solvents, we do not recommend it.

How do I get additional lubricator wheels? How much do they cost?
We offer a lubricator wheel replacement set (with two pieces) right after the campaign in our after-campaign shop together with the address survey at a backers-only price of 7.80 EUR (2 pcs.) without further shipping costs. Of course we will keep the lubricator wheel permanently available as a spare part after the campaign in our shop at www.drivt.bike for a reasonable price. But there is no need to hurry, the heart of the GREEN DISC - the lubricator wheel - lasts for many lube jobs.

How does the lubricant get to the inner parts of the chain?
This is achieved by the soft nature of the lubricator wheel. This wheel adapts perfectly to the shape of each chain link during rotation. Its fine fibres also reach the inner side of the chain links and coats the oil inside the links so that it can penetrate between the cain´s components.

Do I have to clean my chain first?
In our experience, most bicycle chains are dry and washed out. In this case you can use the GREEN DISC without cleaning the chain first. The natural metal abrasion on the chain is absorbed and deposited in the lubricator wheel - therefore it will get dark quickly. Of course you don’t lubricate a real dirty or wet chain without cleaning it. In this case, use a rag to clean or dry the chain before. A chain that is permanently maintained with the GREEN DISC usually does not require a prior cleaning - thanks to the appropriate lubrication of this method. Special circumstances of course are excluded.

Does the care of bicycles have any impact on the environment at all?
There are several hundred millions of bicycles in the world - and fortunately there are more and more. Chain lube is washed off and reaches directly into the soil – this is normal and can hardly be prevented. In most conventional lube jobs, however, lots of oil goes into a rag (and later into the dustbin) – or mostly onto the floor. The same applies to the lots of “high-tech lubricants” with chemical additives such as PTFE, molybdenum disulphide or graphite. If you think that the quantities in the bicycle sector are rather insignificant, just visit a large bike shop and take a look at the shelves…

What is the difference between the GREEN DISC and the well-known LUBRI DISC.
The GREEN DISC is the further development of the LUBRI DISC. It works according to the same technological concept, but offers 25% more storage volume for the lube. It saves raw materials by a new mechanical locking mechanism (without neodymium magnets) and is therefore even more environmentally friendly. The GREEN DISC is not a copy, it is an officially licensed product – protected by law.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
